Race Report - VIR VDCA 2019

The season opener was well attended with 18 cars ready to qualify. Sadly, Friday was a rain-out with only 3 S2’s wading out on track, mostly for shakedown tests. The best news about the rain was we didn’t have to cohabitate on track with 30 FF’s. VDCA wisely converted the Saturday morning race into a qualifying session (without FF’s). The Saturday points race had lot of action behind the S2 leader John Thompson with numerous position changes resulting in a John Thomson – John Kramer – Henry Payne V overall S2 podium. VS2 podium was Larry Rossi – Greg Miller – Steve Konsin and HS2 podium was Tom Kane.

The club party, held under the Speed Unlimited tent (i.e. Jim Kelley’s place), was well attended on Saturday evening. Thanks to Jim Hanna for organizing the event and providing the giveaway goodies? Sunday started with the one hour enduro with S2’s finishing in the top 5 spot’s. It would have been the top 6 spot’s if Tom Kane hadn’t decided to test his fuel range ... running dry 2 laps short (next time .... Take a splash of gas during the pit stop). Sunday’s S2 (only) race was one of the closest contested races in memory. Again, John Thomson moved out to an early lead. The next 6 cars traveled in a tight pack for the entire 10 lap race with positions 2 to 6 covered by less than 1.9 sec’s at the checkered flag That Pack finish order was John Thompson – Nate Scigliano – John Kramer – Tom Kane – Henry Payne V - Peter Krause – Sam Payne. Personal best times were turned by Greg Miller, Steve Konsin and Marc Sharinn. VDCA kindly opened the afternoon Group 2-5-7 race to S2’s with only a few able to stay and play.

We were on our best behavior all weekend with no black marks in the VDCA book ... a successful weekend!
